Cheap Trick

Between 1975 and the band's first album in 1977, Cheap Trick toured constantly, playing over 200 concerts a year, including opening slots for the Kinks, Kiss, Santana, AC/DC, and Queen. The Delaware State Gambling Commission said on Tuesday that no new casinos are going to be built in Delaware. Even though a new study that found two new venues could boost overall revenues and add jobs in the state, at the cost of dropping revenues and losing a few jobs at existing casinos.

TMG Consulting did the study last summer and concluded the addition of two venues would maximize the state's tax revenue and the existing racetrack casinos would all stay in business at the cost of declining revenue. But members of the state government aren't so sure of the study.

They added a footnote to the study stating, "the Commission further concludes that it opposes the de facto finding in the report that would recommend two additional video lottery facilities, due to the potential job losses, not withstanding any net job gains, the potential damage to the horse racing industry and destabilization of the three current video lottery facilities."

It's interesting that the state is willing to pass on more revenue when it would only result in the moving of jobs, good for them to actually look at the people involved and not just the bottom line.

Last year wasn't good for casinos in New Jersey, in fact, it was the worst year in the last decade. The last time financial results were this poor was back in 1997.

The New Jersey Casino Control Commission said that 2009's wins were down 13.2% to $3.9 billion. Slot machine wins dropped by 13.1% to $2.72 billion while table games had a drop of 13.5% to $1.22 billion.

On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives voted 103-to-89 in favor of approving a bill that would allow casinos in Pennsylvania to offer poker and table games across the state. Governor Ed Rendell has already said he would pass the bill into law.

The new law will let the state's larger casinos install up to 250 tables for blackjack, roulette, poker, baccarat and more, smaller resorts casinos will be permitted to have up to 50 tables. State gambling regulators said it will be at least six months before the tables are installed, approved and ready for gaming.

It's been announced that Resorts Atlantic City is trying to get players back to their tables. Their latest attempt: $2 a hand for playing blackjack.

Sure, it's not the best deal but there's a kicker - there's a 25 cent fee per hand to play. I don't know how that will work out just yet, but it's quite possible that you bet $2 but only $1.75 is your actual bet or they'll have a can that you put a quarter into before each hand. I'd also be willing to wager that these tables will payout 6:5 instead of the traditional 3:2.

Kevin Brown, the director of table games at Resorts AC said the $2 tables will target players who are just learning blackjack and may be intimidated by higher-limit games.

So Resorts AC is looking at a way to slowly grind away at your pocketbook while giving you the impression that you've gotten a bargain.

Dog racing is coming to an end in Wisconsin after launching 20 years ago. Last Thursday, Dairyland Greyhound Park in Kenosha closed officially ending dog racing in Wisconsin.

The tracks had been struggling to compete against other forms of gambling, particularly online and Indian casinos. The racetracks were unable to remain financially viable over the long term.
