What can only be described as an odd ritual, closed down casinos in Las Vegas are allowed to reopen for a day.
"One-day casinos -- mandated by law for a handful of places that are
closed but want to hang onto their gaming rights -- are governed by the
same rules as high-end resorts with thousands of machines. They're the
gambling industry's equivalent of a solar eclipse." - LA Times
A fascinating read about one of the odder parts of casinos, and some of these laws just get weirder. The Queen of Hearts Casino had closed down, but to keep the properties gaming rights, they must be open 8 hours every two years. What's even weirder is that the law includes both closed down casinos and razed casinos
I would love to hear about a casino that has been razed but still kept
their gaming rights. Where would the machines be placed? On top of some
rubble?
Either way, the article is worth reading.
